Ant Control · Greenville, Spartanburg & Anderson

Ant control that goes after the colony, not just the trail.

Ants are the most common pest call in the Upstate, and the trail you see in the kitchen is only a tiny part of the colony. Lemon combines an exterior barrier, targeted baits and yard granules so the workers carry treatment back to the nest — and keeps that protection fresh every quarter.

Included in Lemon Standard and Lemon Premium.

Quick answer

Why do ants keep coming back after I spray them?

Store-bought sprays kill the ants you can see, but the queen and most of the colony live out of sight in walls, soil or mulch. Some species even split into new colonies when disturbed. Lasting control comes from slower-acting baits and treatments the workers carry back to the nest, plus a perimeter barrier that stops new scouts.

Signs of an ant problem

  • Steady trails along baseboards, counters or window sills — often right after a rain.
  • Small piles of sawdust-like debris near windows or doors (a possible carpenter ant sign).
  • Mounds of loose soil in the lawn, especially in sunny areas after a storm.
  • Winged ants indoors in spring, which can mean a nest inside the structure.

Common ants in Upstate South Carolina

Odorous house ants
Small, dark brown ants that smell like rotten coconut when crushed. They love sweets and often move indoors after heavy rain.
Argentine ants
Light-brown ants that form huge, cooperative trails with many queens. They are notorious for coming right back after over-the-counter sprays.
Red imported fire ants
Found across South Carolina. They build fluffy dirt mounds in lawns and deliver painful, burning stings when disturbed.
Carpenter ants
Large black or reddish-black ants that hollow out damp or damaged wood to nest. They do not eat wood, but can signal a moisture problem.

The Lemon way

How we handle ants

  1. 01

    Identify the ant

Different ants need different strategies. We identify the species and find where they are entering and nesting.

  2. 02

    Bait and barrier

We place baits where foragers will carry them home and apply a non-repellent exterior barrier around the foundation, doors and windows.

  3. 03

    Treat the yard

Granular yard treatments help keep fire ants and other ground nesters in check around your home.

  4. 04

    Follow up

A single colony can hold tens to hundreds of thousands of ants, so no one treatment — no matter how thorough — will wipe them out. That is why ongoing quarterly service matters: each visit refreshes the barrier and bait, and free re-services cover any flare-ups in between.

What you can do to help

A few simple habits make a real difference — and they’re free.
  • Wipe up sweets and pet food promptly and store pantry goods in sealed containers.
  • Avoid spraying store-bought repellents on trails once we have treated — it can scatter the colony.
  • Never stir up a fire ant mound; keep kids and pets away and let us know where it is.
  • Trim branches touching the roof — carpenter and odorous house ants use them as bridges.

FAQ

Ant Control questions

How long does it take to get rid of ants?

Many customers see a big drop within a few days, but baits are designed to work over one to two weeks so they reach the queen. Stubborn species like Argentine ants can take a couple of visits.

Do you treat fire ants?

Yes. Our quarterly plans include granular yard treatments that help suppress fire ants and other ground-dwelling pests around your home.

Are carpenter ants the same as termites?

No. Carpenter ants excavate wood to nest but do not eat it, and they have pinched waists and elbowed antennae. If you are unsure what you are seeing, snap a photo and text it to us.
