Termite prevention, starting with a free inspection.
Termites are active across South Carolina, and the damage they cause usually stays hidden until it’s expensive. Lemon starts with a free inspection of your foundation, crawlspace and other trouble spots, then gives you a written quote for the right protection. Add it to your pest control plan, or book it on its own.

Quick answer
When do termites swarm in South Carolina?
Eastern subterranean termites — the most common termite in the Upstate — usually swarm in spring, often on a warm day after rain. Swarmers are winged termites that leave a mature colony to start a new one. Seeing them indoors, or finding piles of shed wings near windows and doors, is a good reason to get a professional inspection.
Signs of termites
Pencil-width mud tubes on foundation walls, piers or inside the crawlspace.
Winged swarmers indoors in spring, or piles of discarded wings on window sills.
Wood that sounds hollow when tapped, or paint and flooring that bubbles or ripples.
Damp areas where wood touches soil — porches, steps, fence posts and siding.
Termites in South Carolina
Eastern subterranean termites
The termite most Upstate homes deal with. Colonies live in the soil and build mud tubes to reach the wood in your home.
Formosan subterranean termites
An aggressive invasive species found mainly along the South Carolina coast, with very large colonies.
Termite or flying ant?
Termite swarmers have straight antennae, a thick waist and two pairs of equal-length wings. Ants have bent antennae, a pinched waist and front wings longer than the back ones. Not sure? Text us a photo.

Keep gutters clean and downspouts draining away from the foundation.
Leave a gap between mulch or soil and your siding, and keep wood from touching the ground.
