Wasp, Hornet & Yellowjacket Control · Greenville, Spartanburg & Anderson

Wasp and hornet nests, gone — on every visit.

Paper wasps under the eaves, yellowjackets in the lawn, hornets in the shrubs: stinging insects can turn your porch or deck into a no-go zone. Nest removal is part of every Lemon visit, and we treat the spots wasps like to rebuild so they move on.

Nest removal is included in Lemon Standard and Lemon Premium.

Quick answer

When are wasps and yellowjackets most aggressive in South Carolina?

Late summer into early fall. By then colonies are at their largest and foraging hard for sugar, so yellowjackets in particular become far more defensive around nests, trash cans and outdoor food. Small nests are easiest to deal with in spring and early summer.

Signs of a stinging insect problem

  • Umbrella-shaped paper nests under eaves, porch ceilings, railings or playsets.
  • Steady traffic of yellowjackets in and out of a hole in the lawn or a wall void.
  • Football-shaped gray paper nests hanging in trees or shrubs.
  • Wasps buzzing around soffits, gutters or attic vents.

Stinging insects in the Upstate

Paper wasps
Long-legged wasps that build open, umbrella-shaped nests under eaves and railings. They usually only sting when the nest is disturbed.
Yellowjackets
Compact yellow-and-black wasps that often nest underground or in wall voids. Their colonies grow large and defensive by late summer.
Bald-faced hornets
Black-and-white relatives of yellowjackets that build enclosed, football-shaped paper nests in trees and shrubs.
European hornets
Large, brown-and-yellow hornets that nest in hollow trees and wall voids and can fly at night.
Mud daubers
Slender wasps that build mud tubes on walls and ceilings. They rarely sting, but the nests are unsightly — we remove them and clean up the mess.

The Lemon way

How we handle wasps & hornets

  1. 01

    Locate every nest

We check eaves, soffits, railings, decks, playsets, shrubs and the lawn for active and old nests.

  2. 02

    Treat and remove

Active nests are treated first so the colony is handled carefully, then knocked down and removed. We treat the protected spots wasps favor so they are less likely to rebuild.

  3. 03

    Clean up after

We don’t just scrape off mud dauber nests. We clean the spot and sweep away the dirt we knocked down — because we care, and we leave your home better than we found it.

  4. 04

    Repeat each visit

Nest removal is part of every quarterly visit, and free re-services cover new nests in between.

What you can do to help

A few simple habits make a real difference — and they’re free.
  • Never plug or flood a yellowjacket ground nest — it can make them more aggressive and push them into walls.
  • Keep trash cans and recycling bins lidded and rinsed in late summer.
  • Check playsets and grills in spring for small starter nests.
  • If someone is allergic to stings, call us rather than trying to remove a nest yourself.

FAQ

Wasp, Hornet & Yellowjacket Control questions

Do you remove honey bee swarms?

Honey bees are important pollinators, so we recommend contacting a local beekeeper who can relocate a swarm. If you are not sure what kind of bee you have, text us a photo.

Is nest removal included in my plan?

Yes. We remove wasp, hornet and yellowjacket nests on and around your home during every visit, and we will come back between visits if new ones pop up.

Can you treat a nest inside a wall?

Yes. Wall-void nests need careful treatment at the entry point. Do not seal the hole yourself — the insects may chew through to the inside of your home.
